Award Nominations for Students

SEED takes great pride in its effort to foster and advance the interest of Diaspora Ethiopians and their children wherever they may reside. SEED recognizes and awards student who have made significant contributions to their communities, excelled in their academic pursuit, stood out in humanitarian efforts, showed exemplary community services, literary, artistic or athletic talents, posse scientific accomplishments, entrepreneurial or leadership skills and other endeavors of significance. SEED believes that such individuals can serve as role models to others.
Criteria For Nomination
Nomination must be made by March 1st of each year

PROPOSER MUSIT SUBMIT RECORD OF THE NOMINEE’S ACHIEVEMENTS WHICH INCLUDE:
  • GPA
  • Resume
  • One page of narrative descriptive of relevant accomplishments
  • Two letters of reference supporting the nominee
Nominations
  • All members of SEED, previous honorees, non-members, and others who support SEED’s mission or believe in its efforts are invited to submit nominations. Nominees must have a record of achievement that demonstrates that they can serve as role models to others in the community.
  • Anyone may nominate a qualified student for an award by SEED
  • Nominee may not receive more than one award for the same achievement
  • SEED allows joint recipient awards
NOMINEES WILL BE SCORED USING THE TABLE BELOW PLUS RECOMMENDATION LETTERS:
QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
  • Membership of National Honors Society - Max Points 5
  • Domestic community service promoting culture or positively affecting the Ethiopian community - Max Points 5
  • A Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above - Max Points 5
  • A GPA on AP Courses - Max Points 5
  • SAT I / SAT II (1200 min, 600 min, respectively - Max Points 5
  • Merit Scholarship Received - Max Points 2
  • Valedictorian - Max Points 5
  • Participating in Clubs - Max Points 5
  • Outside USA Ethiopian community service - Max Points 10
  • Efforts to Master Official Ethiopian Language - Max Points 5
QUALIFICATIONS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS
  • Graduated with Honors - Max Points 10
  • Admitted in one of the top 30 colleges or universities - Max Points 10
  • Command of Ethiopian Language - Max Points 5
  • Contributed to Community Service - Max Points 15
  • Promote Ethiopian interests (hunger, HIV, humanitarian, etc.) - Max Points 10
