In Memory of Aster Assefa: Aster was a passionate supporter of SEED and the annual SEED awards dinner was one of the highlights of the year for Aster and her family. Every year the SEED awards dinner was a showpiece of Ethiopia's talen: outstanding professionals, world-class scientists, great teachers and humanitarians and brilliant yount Ethiopians. All SEED award recipients are role models for Ethiopians especially for the youth. Aster was especially awed by the achievements of gifted and multi-talented young Ethiopians who have succeeded against enormous odds. For those who strive, great challenges and rewards await them. The Aster Assefa Scholarship Award is a humble and modest step to recognize and encourage young Ethiopians.
In Memory of Samson Samuel and Tenagne Gebreselassie: Tenagne and Samson were active members and supporters of SEED & its mission with Tenagne serving as a board member for several years. Upon the death of her life time friend and husband, Samson Samuel, Tenagne founded a scholarship in his honor aimed at educating under privileged children in Ethiopia. Tenagne passed away surrounded by family and friends at her home on May 11, 2016.
Working with Tenagne’s family and friends, SEED repurposed the scholarship to serve as a memorial for Tenagne and Samson who leveraged their love and commitment to each other to build a safety net of support for family, friends, children in need in Ethiopia and Ethiopian communities in the diaspora.
This scholarship is a tribute to their record of service and their willingness to open their hearts, home and resources to help young children realize their dreams. In recognition of their commitment to academic and professional excellence coupled with dedication to civic responsibilities of lending a helping hand to those less fortunate, SEED is proud to sponsor this scholarship that will enable underprivileged children to attend private schools in Ethiopia. Tenagne and Samson will forever be remembered by SEED and the many family and friends who hold them dear in their hearts.
