Anna Getaneh

An International Model of a great acclaim. Her profession has taken her across the globe. She has participated in various prestigious Fashion Shows in Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, Barcelona, Dusseldorf etc. She is the founder of African Mosiaque. Her work in the spectrum of cultural diversity has impacted the fashion world. Printed and editorial work includes covers for American, European and African publication such as American and French Vogue, Maris Claire, Amina etc. Ms. Getaneh is the founder of the Ethiopian Children Fund Project that is currently housing over 80 children ages 3-8 attending school. The project is expected to provide education, boarding, vocational training, a clinic and agricultural program for over 550 children in Ethiopia. Ms. Getaneh speaks Amharic, English, French, and is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Belgium.


Fanaye Diresse

By her act of kindness, she has appealed to our collective conscience to do good for others. By the nobility and courage of her act, she has enabled a fellow Ethiopian to have a healthier and longer life. Her high moral integrity, broad sympathies and selfless deportment, has won her the love and affection of the Ethiopian Community and beyond. Fanaye is a graduate of Morhead State University in Minnesota and has pursue a Masters degree at the University of Iowa. She is an educator (teacher) by profession. She has taught at Fill Haven Elementary, Cooper Elementary and Fairoak Middle School for a total over 11 years. Since 1989, she has been teaching bilingual students in the Washington D.C. area. In 1995 she opened a private Educational Center to mainly help young students in her community. Over 50 of her Ethiopian students have been able to achieve honors and recognition when they finished school. Fanaye is an active member of her church and the Ethiopian Community.


Mignon Ford

Born in 1905 in Barbados, emigrated to the U.S. and then to Ethiopia in 1930 to be united with her African brothers and sisters. In Ethiopia, she founded Princess Zenebe Worq co-educational boarding school, the first institution to give Ethiopians woman equal opportunity to succeed in academic, music, theater, sports etc. She adopted, raised and educated more than thirty needy children with her own expenses. she co-founded the YMCA, assisted in the founding of the Girl Scout and in the re-establishment of the Boy Scout movement in Ethiopia. She was a recipient of the Edward Wilmot Blaydon Award for educational excellence by African Heritage Studies. She was a mother, a teacher, a mentor and an undisputed initial link between Ethiopians and African Americans as well as Caribbean's. Mrs. Ford's lifetime achievements are a permanent part of the exhibition at 'Schaumburg Center for Research in Black History' in New York City. Mrs. Ford passed away in 1995 and is survived by her two sons and her grand children.


Noah Samara

Founder and CEO of World Space and its subsidiaries with license to provide international direct satellite radio service in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. Mr. Samara received a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JP) from Georgetown University Law School, a Masters degree in International Business from the Georgetown School of Foreign Services, and holds a Masters degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). In the last two years, Business Week, Newsweek, The London Times and the Washington Post have profiled Mr. Samara. He is a recipient of African International Magazine Trophy for Innovation and peace through Education award from the Pacem in Terris Institute. He is admired for his entrepreneurial skills and hopes to bring information affluence to the remote parts of the world and help create information wealth across the globe.


Tilahun Gessesse

An eminent statesman, defender of human rights, patriotic, beloved singer and songwriter. For almost three generations, the beloved and revered Tilahun has rendered faithful and valuable services for Ethiopia and Ethiopians. We have enjoyed his uninterrupted melodies for over four decades. Through his songs Tilahun has made us laugh, cry, inspired us, and made us feel good about who we are as people. He has made outstanding contributions in the preservation of our culture through his music. A distinguished role model to countless young artists, he is the scale against which other artists in the profession are measured. Tilahun needs no introduction. He is simply known as "Ethiopia's Treasure."
