ImageDr. Akalou Woldemichael is a teacher, a researcher, and a leader in his profession. He served Hailesilassie I University College in the capacity of Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of faculty of Arts, and as member of its teaching staff. At present he is a professor at Texas Southern University in the Department of History, Geography and Economics. He received his B.A in Geography from the Hailesilassie I University, his Ph.D. and Masters in geography from the University of California, and Diploma in Italian Language from the Universita Per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy. In addition to teaching, Dr. Akalou is also a published writer. From his over sixteen research papers -The Economic Impact of Residential Desegregation on Historically Black Neighborhoods in Houston, and The Role of Africa in North-South Dialogue are good examples. Dr. Akalou is a member of various professional associations,to mention a few: -The Association of American Geographer, The Americansociety of Photogrammetry, the Southwestern Social Sciences Association. Dr. Akalou has received numerous grants and awards including the Afgrad Fellow and the United States Geological Survey Study Grants to work on the latest techniques in modern digital mapping at Rolla, Missouri andReston, Virginia.
