Ethiopia's and Ethiopian's fondly remembered actor, Wegayehu Nigatu, the son of Mrs. Amsale Beyene and Mr. Nigatu Bizuneh, was born in Kebena, a neighborhood in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on May 28, 1936. Mr. Nigatu received his primary education, at the Sweedish Evangelical Mission. He was a gifted and talented individual in theater, drama and acting. While nurturing his artistic abilities on the side, Wogayehu pursued his academic interests at Teferri Mekonnen High School, where he finished his secondary education. He received additional education in theater and drama by taking classes at the National University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

In an attempt to further strengthen his educational background in acting, Wegayehu was sent to Budapest, Hungary, where he successfully accomplished his mission and returned home. After returning to Ethiopia with a broad understanding of theater, Wegayehu entertained the Ethiopian people with outstanding performances until the day he departed from the stage and the stage of life itself. During his lifetime career, starting from 1962 to 1963, Wegayehu served as an instructor in The Cultural Theater Program. From 1963 to 1964 he participated in acting at Hager Fikir Mahiber. From 1964 to 1966, he worked at the Information and Cultural Ministry, along with the radio and Television Corporation, as well as other various organizations. Wegayehu served as the leading instructor/actor, demonstrating his superb abilities and God-given talent. In addition, at various occasions, due to his love and dedication for acting and young artists, Wegayehu trained and helped many other Ethiopian actors at the National Theater, who to this day, are still thankful and respectful to Wegayehu Nigatu for their own fame and fortune. Out of love for his country and profession and in order to strengthen acting and performing in Ethiopia, as well as to maintain the cultural aspects of his country in theater, Wegayehu worked arduously both as an executive and an actor along with other people in key positions. Throughout his career, according to the records, Wegayehu participated in 18 theatrical appearances, which aired on television, 46 on radio, and 30 on the stage. In addition, Wegayehu often appeared in numerous other stage performances in which he held poetry readings, plays (dramas) and many other events. He is remembered for his role in Fikir Eske Mekaber, Enat Alem Tenu, Ha Hu Be Sidest Wer and many others. As a person, Wegayehu will always be remembered as a kind and generous person. What distinguished him from the many other actors is his superb ability to assume the complex role of characters during performances and to incorporate their personalities as if they were his own. As a result of his great performances and acting ability, many of his colleagues to feel nostalgic about him and use his legend as an inspiration and goal to live up to. Truly, Wegayehu was our jewel and an outstanding actor. SEED posthumously thanks Wogayehu for enriching our lives and for all the positive contributions he has left behind. Although Wegayehu Nigatu may have passed at the age of 46, his great works and deeds will live forever.
