ImageEthiopian North American Health Professional Association [ENAHPA] is an organization founded in November 1999. Its members are comprised of Medical Professionals from the United States, Canada and Ethiopia. http://www.enahpa.org/ SEED is honoring ENAHPA for its many accomplishments and promises, given its relatively young existence. Among ENAHPA’s many accomplishments, its recent Medical/ Surgical mission to Ethiopia from September 27th to October 13th stands out. During this mission, its over 20 medical teams with determined vision, performed 10 open-heart valve replacement surgery, 16 cardiac pace-maker implants, 75 plastic and reconstructive surgeries and 29, the first ever, video-assisted laparoscopic surgery without a single incident of fatalities. ENAHPA plans to build a multi-million dollars cardiac center in Ethiopia where local medical professionals can be trained and perform open heart and pacemaker implant surgeries in the next 3 to 5 years. ENHPA also plans to return on a similar mission to Ethiopia in October 2004. In addition, ENAHPA has played a significant role by providing hands on transfer of knowledge, skills and training of a couple hundred physicians in Ethiopia. During the same mission in October 2003, ENAHPA, donated a couple of computers, printers and several newly published medical textbooks and has committed to add photocopy machines in the near future. In the last few years it has shipped several thousands of books and other materials to help in the education of students and faculties in the medical field in Ethiopia. ENAHPA plans to continue to collaborate with NGO’s and universities and hospitals in Ethiopia. It plans, among many other projects, to upgrade the existing Neonatal/ Pediatric Units and health-care services and continues to facilitate and provide remote learning or teaching by collaborating with John Hopkins University and others.
