Dr. Ingida Asfaw is a nationally and internationally renowned Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon currently on staff at the Detroit Medical Center Hospitals. He also serves as the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at Sinai-Grace Hospital, a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University, Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Trinity Health-St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and Chief Executive Officer of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons of Michigan.
Dr. Asfaw graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Pre-Medicine undergraduate from Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia, and Magna Cum Laude from the Indiana University School of Medicine, performing his post-graduate work at the Wayne State University and Detroit Medical Center Hospitals and the Texas Heart Institute. As a venerated surgeon in his field of expertise, Dr. Asfaw has authored numerous scientific research papers, clinical publications, and book chapters and has given many lectures both nationally and internationally. He is a lifetime member of Who’s Who National Registry, a recipient of Teaching Excellence in Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery and has received many awards and recognition for his work, from organizations such as the Michigan State Medical Society. Dr. Asfaw is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Chest Physicians, and the Ethiopian Medical Association and is a member of numerous prestigious professional societies. He is the Immediate Past President of the Michigan Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Michigan Opera Theatre, member of the Deaconate Board of Plymouth United Church of Christ, Member of the Board of Directors of Horizon healthcare and Founder and President of ENAHPA, the Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association.
